Maggie Whitson named girls cross country coach at Science Hill

Maggie Whitson

Science Hill High School is excited to welcome Maggie Whitson as the girls’ cross country coach.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to be named the next head coach of the Science Hill girls cross country team.” Whitson says. “This team is in the process of building a culture and environment that breeds trust and believing in one another. Through the hard work of our team, I cannot wait to see what this program accomplishes not only in the short term but also in the long term. We will build a program that our community will be proud of for years to come.”

These accomplishments did not go unnoticed, as Whitson was awarded the TSSAA Coach of the Year in Cross Country for the 2018 season. Whitson coached at UH from 2013-2020. She also ran collegiately with stops at Virginia Intermont, ETSU, and King College.  Whitson’s UH teams also had multiple state title runner-up finishes for both boys and girls.  Also, accomplished as a Track & Field Coach, she won a state title with the girls 4x800 team (2018).  Whitson served as the assistant girls’ and boys’ cross country coach at Science Hill during the 2021 fall season and is a current part of the SH Track & Field Coaching staff beginning in 2020. Prior to Science Hill, Whitson won multiple state titles as Head Coach of Cross Country at University School (2017, 2018).
